GTA 5 is experiencing a serious drop in popularity on the Steam Deck. This situation arose after the introduction of the BattlEye anti-cheat software for the game’s online mode, GTA Online. Recently, it was reported that support for GTA Online on Steam Deck has been discontinued, leading to significant disappointment among players.
GTA 5 Officially Withdrawn from Steam Deck
GTA Online has been one of the main attractions of this game, which has maintained its popularity for over ten years. With GTA Online now disabled, the game has fallen 11 places in the Steam Deck’s most-played list, dropping to 17th place. This decline occurred even though the game is currently offered at a 66% discount.
BattlEye is a widely used anti-cheat software that has been successfully implemented in popular games like Rainbow Six Siege and PUBG. While it has effectively prevented cheating in GTA Online, it has become a major issue for Steam Deck users.
The game’s current designation as “not supported” on Steam Deck prevents players from experiencing GTA 5 to its full potential on this handheld console. However, some users have reported being able to access the single-player Story Mode by disabling the BattlEye software.
The removal of GTA 5’s online support from the Steam Deck has dealt a significant blow to many players who have invested in this console and enjoyed playing the game on this platform. Although access to the single-player campaign remains, the absence of online features severely impacts the overall gaming experience.
